12V 36Ah lifepo4 battery is a deep cycle battery, which is different from a car starter battery. This battery is mainly used to power electric boat motors, RV appliances, and solar systems. 12V 35Ah LFP battery BMS
The built-in intelligent BMS is one of the core components of the 12.8V 35Ah lithium iron phosphate battery, and is also the key to why it is both safe and long-lasting.
Unlike the traditional lead-acid batteries you may be familiar with, lithium batteries like lithium iron phosphate have higher energy density and better performance, but they also require more sophisticated management to ensure that they work safely, efficiently, and last for a long time. This smart BMS is specifically designed to do this.
- Overcharge Protection. If you accidentally overcharge the battery, or forget to unplug the battery after it is fully charged, the BMS will automatically cut off the charge to prevent the battery from being damaged, overheated, or even dangerous due to overcharging.
- Over-discharge Protection. When discharging, the battery cannot be completely drained. If the power is too low, below a safe limit, it will cause irreversible damage to the lithium battery and greatly shorten its life. When the BMS detects that the voltage is too low, it will automatically cut off the discharge.
- Over-current Protection. Whether charging or discharging, the current cannot be too large. If the instantaneous current is too large, it may cause the battery to overheat or be damaged. The BMS is like a smart fuse. Once it detects that the current is abnormally excessive, it will immediately intervene to limit or cut off the current.
- Short Circuit Protection. This is an extremely important safety feature. If the positive and negative poles of the battery accidentally touch each other, a short circuit will occur, generating huge current and high temperature instantly, which is very dangerous. The BMS can detect the short circuit within milliseconds and cut off the circuit immediately.
- Temperature Protection. The BMS will continuously monitor the battery temperature. If the temperature is too high or too low, the BMS will prohibit charging or discharging.
12V 35Ah LiFePo4 Battery Series & Parallels
For 12.8V 36Ah LFP batteries, we recommend connecting up to 4 in series. That is to say: 2 sets in series, you can get a 24V, 36Ah battery pack. 3 sets in series, you get a 36V 36Ah battery pack. Up to 4 sets in series, you can form a 48V, 36Ah system.
You must use exactly the same batteries (same brand, same model, same capacity, preferably purchased from the same batch and in similar usage conditions). The connecting wires used must be able to withstand the corresponding total voltage and current.
Next, let’s talk about parallel connection. The purpose of parallel connection is to increase the total capacity (Ah) of the entire battery pack, while keeping the voltage at the voltage of a single battery, which is 12V. With 2 batteries in parallel, you can get a 12V, 72Ah (36Ah x 2) battery pack. With 3 batteries in parallel, you get a 12V, 108Ah (36Ah x 3). Up to 4 batteries in parallel can form a large-capacity system of 12V, 144Ah (36Ah x 4).
When connecting in parallel, you must also use batteries that are exactly the same (same brand, same model, same capacity, and similar condition).
Consistency principle: Batteries of different brands, models, capacities, or even batteries of very different ages must not be mixed in series or parallel.
Correct and secure connections: Use appropriate, high-quality cables and terminals to ensure secure connections and avoid heat or short circuits caused by poor contact.
FAQs for 12.8V 36Ah li-ion battery
This 12V 36Ah LiFePO4 battery is very durable! It is designed to last for thousands of cycles (e.g. 2000 to 5000 deep cycles), and under normal use, it should last for many years, often up to a decade or more, much longer than traditional lead-acid batteries.
Usually it is possible, and many people upgrade and replace it this way! Its voltage (12V) and capacity (36Ah) are the same, so it can be directly replaced. You will find that it is much lighter and has a much longer life. The only thing to note is that in order to achieve the best results and protect the battery, it is best to confirm whether your charger is compatible with lithium batteries, or use the lithium battery charger we recommend.
This depends on the current of the charger you use. Simply put, divide the battery capacity (36Ah) by the current of the charger (ampere/A) to estimate the approximate number of hours. For example, using a 10 amp (10A) lithium battery charger to charge a completely empty battery, it will take about 3.6 hours to fully charge.
This is not generally recommended and is not a safe approach. The charging modes of ordinary chargers (such as floating charge or equalization charge phase) are not suitable for lithium iron phosphate batteries and may even be harmful.
