How to DIY 26650 Battery Pack
To DIY a 26650 battery pack, follow these steps:
Materials Preparation
- 26650 Batteries: Prepare a sufficient number of 26650 batteries according to the desired capacity.
- Battery Holder: Use a 3D printed battery holder or purchase a ready-made battery box.
- Battery Management System (BMS): Protects the battery from overcharge, over-discharge, and short circuit.
- Connecting Wires: Suitable wires for connecting the batteries and BMS.
- Soldering Iron: A tool for soldering connections between the batteries and BMS.
- Charger: A charger suitable for 26650 batteries (nominal voltage 3.2V).
21700 Battery Pack Assembly Steps
- Determine Configuration: Based on the desired voltage and capacity of the 26650 battery pack, determine the series (S) and parallel (P) connection method. For example, to DIY a 12V 10A battery pack, you need 3 batteries in series (3S) and 2 batteries with 5A capacity in parallel (2P).
- Assemble Batteries: Place the batteries in the holder according to the designed series and parallel configuration. Ensure the correct connection of the positive and negative terminals. In series, connect the positive to the negative of the next battery; in parallel, connect the positives together.
- Secure Batteries: Use hot glue or the battery holder to fix the batteries together, ensuring they are stable and won’t come loose, which also helps with heat dissipation.
- Connect BMS: Connect the BMS’s P- and P+ to the battery pack’s P- and P+, ensuring correct connection.
- Install Charging Interface: Connect the charging interface to the BMS to charge the battery pack. If the output and input ports are different, you need at least four electronic wires.
- Test and Use: After completing all connections, check if the battery pack’s connections are correct, then perform at least one charge-discharge cycle. Ensure the battery pack can charge and discharge normally.
Lithium-ion battery production process
#1 Cell Selection
Select the quantities of 26650 battery cells you need. Ensure they works fine.
#2 Battery Sorting
Make sure that the capacity, voltage, and internal resistance of the selected cells are consistent.
#3 Arrangement & Assembly
Combine the required battery modules in a series-parallel manner.
#4 Spot Welding
The positive and negative terminals of the battery are connected via nickel tabs to form the desired capacity or voltage.
#5 Mounting Protection Board
Connect the protection board on the battery pack to ensure that its overcharge, overdischarge and short circuit protection functions properly.
#6 Packaging & Aging
Wrap the battery pack in a PVC or metal casing while charging and discharging to activate the battery pack performance.
