Steps to Custom Lithium Battery
Here are the four steps for lithium battery customization:
- Information collection: voltage, capacity, charge and discharge currents, operating time, working temperature, and maximum dimensions, etc.
- Cell selection: our engineers recommend suitable cells considering size, cost, temperature range, and current among other cell parameters.
- Electrical & mechanical engineering: Considerations include cell bracket, placement of the protection board circuit, insulation paper, and NTC probe position, to meet specific spatial requirements.
- Prototyping and validation: We can provide samples within 7 days. If necessary, we can provide two sets of samples for cycle testing and validation.

Battery Pack Manufacturing Process
- Cell matching: Within the same batch of cells, we also perform matching, mainly controlling that the voltage, capacity, and internal resistance are within specific ranges.
- Battery pack assembly: Selected cells are secured using glue or brackets, and nickel strips are welded on, connected in series or parallel to increase voltage or capacity.
- Adding boards and wires: The selected protection board is welded on, whether a hardware or software board, to provide functions like overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short-circuit, and temperature protection.
- Insulation: Use highland barley paper or high-temperature insulation glue inside the structure to prevent short circuits.
- First full inspection of the finished battery pack: Test the battery pack’s voltage, current, internal resistance, and charging/discharging conditions.
- Aging test: Usually 1-2 high-temperature aging tests to activate the chemical substances in the cells.
- Adding casing or PVC: According to customer needs, the battery pack is encased in a shell or wrapped with PVC.
- Second full inspection of the finished battery pack: The battery pack’s voltage, current, internal resistance, and charging/discharging conditions are tested again.

FAQs for custom battery packs
OEM batteries are specific batteries we manufacture according to customer requirements to meet their specific needs. We design and produce batteries strictly according to customer specifications. Although this might increase the cost, we ensure reliable performance and longevity.
The main factors affecting the lifespan of a battery pack are the number of charge cycles and the usage time. Other significant factors include the average power of charging and discharging, storage and operating environment temperatures, and the depth of charge and discharge. It is recommended to avoid frequent deep discharges and to maintain the charging range between 20% and 95%, charging promptly.
Under normal conditions, ternary batteries can achieve 500 to 800 charge cycles, lithium iron phosphate batteries can exceed 3000 cycles, and 18650 battery packs can exceed 500 cycles.
Rechargeable battery pack consists single battery cell, protection board, insulation components, wires, connectors to meet specific demands. It equips battery series and parallel combination to arrive voltage and capacity needs.
However, PCM or BMS has over-charge, over-discharge, over-current and short circuit protection. Some have cell balanced, communication protocol (RS485, RS232, CAN) to monitor each battery status.
Below are main testing to be done for chargeable lithium battery pack:
- Capacity & performance testing. It is mainly working on charging and discharging cabinet with 0.5C rate or required current rate.
- Safety testing will include: thermal shock and cycling, external short circuit protection, overcharge protection, over-temperature protection, thermal propagation protection, resistance to mechanical demage by external force, internal short circuit and thermal abuse.
